Pressure intensifier by Poppe + Potthoff

No test rig. But a component that needs answers. On your desk sits a prototype: a common rail, a hydrogen valve, a hydraulic fitting, maybe a 3D‑printed heat exchanger. Now it has to prove itself under pressure – not on paper, but in real test conditions.

Pressure Test your component.
Not your investment plan.

Not every project justifies building a dedicated test rig. Sometimes you simply need trustworthy test results – quickly. That’s where Poppe + Potthoff’s Test‑as‑a‑Service helps.

You send us your component. We test it on our pressure test machines in Nordhausen. You receive data, pressure curves, and a report that shows exactly how your part behaves under real load conditions – at pressures up to 15,000 bar, depending on the application. Our pressure test benches allow precise control of flow, pressure, ambient temperature, and media cooling and heating. From cold plates up to 12 bar, through to common‑rail and fuel‑injection systems at 10,000 bar and above.

Because the infrastructure is already in place at PPM – pressure intensifiers, safety chambers, media systems, and control software – there is virtually no ramp‑up time on your side.

Who this is for

Maybe you’re developing a new injector line and need to see how it behaves under cyclic pressure before you freeze the design. Or you’re working on hydrogen components – tank valves, regulators, fittings – and must prove leak tightness at high pressure without building your own gas test environment.

You might be designing a new ADAS controller and need to qualify the cold plate under media flow, pressure cycling, and thermal cycling. Or your team has a prototype pump head or pressure vessel ready, but not the internal capacity to run a controlled burst‑to‑failure test.

Your team has a prototype pump head or pressure vessel ready, but lacks the internal capacity to run a controlled-burst test to failure.

Sometimes you’re simply validating a design change and need fast, comparable data before committing to a dedicated test rig or scaling into production. And sometimes it’s even simpler: you just need to know: will it hold?

Do you need a certified result? We organize the TÜV to observe and document the test procedure.

How it works

You start with the component and the question: what pressure range, which test medium, how many cycles, and what acceptance criteria? Together, we define the test setup – not a generic standard, but your pressure curve, your pressure load case, your pressure test conditions. You send the parts to Nordhausen; we take care of fixturing, safe installation, and integration into the test system.

The test runs on calibrated equipment with controlled pressure generation. Pressure intensifiers ensure stable, repeatable conditions. The full pressure history is recorded in real time – cycle by cycle or ramp by ramp.

Burst detection, leak rates, and pressure decay are automatically captured and documented. When the test is complete, you receive a structured report with raw data, curves, and an evaluation. If needed, we review the results together and define the next steps.

What can we test

Don’t see what you need? Contact us with your pressure-testing specification, and we will build a solution to solve your requirements using our testing modules.

Sinusoidal Pressure Curve Poppe +Potthoff Software

Defined pressure ranges, controlled frequencies, and millions of load cycles to identify fatigue and weak points early. Continuous monitoring ensures reproducible results.

Burst Test Curve

Controlled pressure increase until the component fails. High-resolution sensors detect and record the exact burst point. What matters here is not just pressure — but how precisely it is measured.

Autofrettage Curve

Goes beyond testing. Conditions components such as common rails or pump heads by applying controlled overpressure, creating compressive residual stresses that extend fatigue life by up to 30%.

Leak Test Software UI

For hydrogen applications, forming gas (N₂/H₂) and sniffing methods detect leaks at very low levels. For hydraulic components, pressure decay measurement under defined load.

Hydroforming

Enables precise forming and calibration of (high-) pressure components using controlled fluid (or air) pressure, ensuring optimal material properties, tight tolerances, and repeatable results.

Hydrostatic pressure curve

Hydrostatic testing at our Nordhausen facility verifies the strength and integrity of pressure components under controlled liquid pressure, ensuring safe operation and compliance with relevant standards.

Fixture and component integration

Test results are only as good as the setup around the component. Each part must be mounted, sealed, and connected like in real installation – without added stress or unintended leakage. That’s what the fixture ensures.

If you already have a fixture, we integrate it and adapt the interface as required. Pressure connections, sealing concepts, and mechanical clamping are verified before the test starts. If not, we design and machine a dedicated fixture for your component, tailored to geometry, pressure level, and test type.

At 3,000 bar in a burst test, or in hydrogen (forming gas) leak tests above 1,000 bar, there is no room for improvised connections. The objective is clear: the load should act on your component, not on the interface around it.

Why Poppe + Potthoff

You’re not sending parts
to a lab that runs fixed programs.

You’re working with engineers who design and build these test systems. The same equipment your component runs on is used by OEMs and suppliers worldwide for development, validation, and production testing.
